Carolina Chemonstrations®: Super Water-Absorbent Polymers Kit

Begin a study of polymer chemistry with this student-engaged, teacher-led demonstration. Students make predictions about the behavior of 2 water-absorbent polymers, sodium polyacrylate and polyacrylamide, and observe their extraordinary absorbency. They then illustrate how the polymers form hydrogen bonds with water and brainstorm practical applications for them.
